La mostra del Royal College a Monaco
IL’humor inglese è imbattibile. Basti un esempio per tutti: il saggio Getting up on cold mornings di Leigh Hunt che avrà scritto credo nei primi anni del 1800. In questo contesto a dire il vero non c’entra niente, ma c’entrano gli inglesi e la loro proverbiale imperturbabile flemma. E ora vi dico perché.
English humor is incomparable. One needs only to consider the essay, Getting Up On Cold Mornings, by Leigh Hunt, written, I suppose, in the early 19th century. It has really nothing to do with this context, but the English and their unflappable proverbial calm have. And I’ll tell you why.
Ieri mattina arrivando alla conferenza stampa sulla mostra di Kunzli di cui vi ho appena parlato vedo questi alberi “fotografici” che avete qui. Che vuol dire? Boh. Poi in conferenza stampa scopro dal discorso del direttore della Pinakothek del Moderne, Florian Hufnagl come sono andate le cose. Il Royal College of Art di Londra era stato invitato ad esporre in concomitanza con la mostra di Künzli. ma data l’urgenza dei lavori di ristrutturazione del museo il direttore tedesco era stato costretto a informare i professori del Royal College che purtroppo non ci sarebbe stato più spazio per i lavori degli studenti. Quindi niente mostra. Nessuno si è scomposto. Gli studenti – è stato risposto da Londra – si sarebbero occupati di trovare una soluzione creativa e soddisfacente. Today, when I arrived at the press conference for the Künzli exhibition, I could see “photographic” trees, shown here. What did they mean? I had no idea. Later, at the press conference while Florian Hufnagl (the director of the Pinakothek), spoke, I discovered what had happened. The Royal College of Art in London had been invited to exhibit together with Künzli. As the renovation work of the museum was very urgent the director was compelled to inform the Royal College that there was no space left for students’ work. Conclusion: no exhibition. Nobody became perturbed. The reply from London was that the students would find a creative and satisfactory solution.
Gli ippocastani che circondano il museo (e questi per fortuna non soggetti a lavori di ristrutturazione) sono il risultato di questa creatività e ironia. Sono i portatori della mostra in forma fotografica dei progetti degli studenti del RCA. Titolo azzeccato Saplings. 360° vision. ovvero alberelli o giovani arbusti (leggi: giovani). Cosa meglio di questo? On the horse chestnuts surrounding the museum (they are fortunately not subject to renovation) you can see the result of the students’ creativity. They managed to display photos of their projects on the trees. The title is very appropriate: Saplings. 360° vision. What’s better than this?
