A volte è solo questione di prima impressione. Di circostanze fortuite. Dello sguardo che si posa più su un oggetto che su un altro. All’inizio è un gioco. Poi diventa una caccia. Peggio ancora se dopo un po’ ti rendi conto che a dare la caccia non sei tu, ma è la “preda” che gioca a nascondino.

Sometimes it’s just the circumstances, by chance that your eye fixes on one object and not another. At the beginning it’s like a game, then it becomes a sort of hunt.

Forse pensandoci bene è anche il “meccanismo” che “anima” il collezionista (proprio così, con queste due parole che indicano metodica passionalità). La caccia è permanente. Si deve stare in guardia, per non perdere di vista una preda birichina.

Then after a while you realize it is not you who is doing the hunting, but instead it is the prey who is playing hide and seek with you. One has to be on guard not to lose sight of the prey.

Anch’io ho giocato questa volta e assolutamente per caso per un safari (solo fotografico), che va dalla scultura al gioiello in giro per le sale della Saatchi Gallery. L’idea me l’hanno data questo orsetto “ananas” e il suo fratellino a fiori: un buon primo passo primo e poi il tasso, i levrieri, e poi la lepre e l’iguana…

I have also played here in London this time and absolutely by chance I have gone on a safari (only a photographic one) from sculptures to jewellery in the halls of the Saatchi Gallery. This “pineapple” teddy bear and its flowered brother have given me the idea, a good start followed by the badger, the greyhound, the hare and the iguana.
