Schmuck 2012 – Sotto il caldo di una buona stella / Under the warmth of a lucky star

Felix Lindner

italy Eccoci allora primo giorno. Subito in Fiera a vedere le opere selezionate che partecipano all’Herbert Hofmann Preis.
united kingdom Here we are on the first day of the fair. We go directly to the selected work of Herbert Hofmann Preis.

Carine Terreblanche

united kingdom Perhaps because we are in an economic crisis and we do not want to think about it or maybe because two exhibits in enamel in the same year have caused us to think about the fact that perhaps “beauty” is a word we can still use without the risk of being considered conservative or completely outdated. It could be many other things…that the selections are always a reflection of the tastes of those doing the selecting…. but, in any case from the first moment I saw the exhibit this morning, I had the impression that it had something peaceful, relaxed about it; it was confident, and if I dare say, it was even entertained and amused.

italy Colori.
united kingdom The colors, the ornamentation, the design, the jewellers; it’s all rather pleasant.  Even when one plays with absolute simplicity as with the star I published at the beginning of Felix Lindner, the necklace by Karla Olsáková, (from the Czech Republic like Pavel Opocenský with the remarkable titanium brooches), or even the rectangle all in black by Kiko Gianocca that hides from view the side that is usually visible and exhibits the side which is generally hidden.

Kiko Gianocca

united kingdom I am only publishing a selection of the works here.  Who knows if the winner will be among them.

Grandpa Wooley Lieglein

united kingdom I’d like to add a note about the Talente Prize for young artists, (in addition to jewellery, they also create objects in ceramic, glass, and various other materials).  I cannot post any images here because I was not permitted to take any.  Among the artists I’d like to mention: Alice Battegay and her brooches in blackened aluminium which look like fragments of a mosaic waiting to be reassembled; Christopher Thompson Royds and his wonderful garlands which look as if they were made of real dried flowers from an herbarium; Vivian Meller and Laura Alvarado for the idea of the prototyping applied to Nefertiti; Jie Sun and his structures shaped as grey and pink spiral staircases; the Italian artist Lisa Grassivaro and her brooch called Caos Calmo; and Annamaria Leiste and her necklaces reminiscent of days of old, made with the finest threads and embellished with knotted string.

I am a journalist with a passion… in this online space I describe what I see and what I love about contemporary jewellery: its artists, the art works and the places. I share my personal notes, creating a sort of "newspaper" of what I recon is most worthy
