Third appointment with our Hitchcock nights in which, through his short stories, Stefano Marchetti reveals to the readers of this blog some of his creations’ background. On tonight’s menu, first we have a full-blown murder and then a classic example. Enjoy the show and goodnight!
Caino, Stefano Marchetti
Ho recentemente preparato una mostra dal titolo: Caino per un giorno. Caino è la prima immagine che mi è venuta in mente, e l’ho scelta per il suo rappresentare l’archetipo dell’omicidio, della gelosia e del tradimento… Questo è quello che ho voluto fare, almeno per un giorno o per una mostra: costringermi di proposito a creare tutto quello che ho sempre odiato vedere in oreficeria e in questo modo tradire, “uccidere”, tutto quello in cui ho sempre creduto nella mia tradizione di orafo. L’ho fatto come un deliberato atto di gelosia irrazionale. Mi piace il titolo perché è una frase forte ed evocativa, che non descrive necessariamente nulla in maniera chiara. I pezzi per la mostra sono stati fatti usando tutti quei materiali che non uso mai, come: sapone, specchi rotti, cotone, capelli, fili colorati, e così via. Recently I put together an exhibition entitled: “Cain for one day”. Cain is the first image that got on my mind, I chose it since he represents the archetype of murder, jealousy and betrayal… In fact this is exactly what I wanted to do, at least for one day or just for one exhibition: to purposely force myself to create all those things that I always hated to see in jewellery, and so betraying, “killing” all that I always believed in, my own tradition making jewellery. I did it as a precise act of irrational jealousy. I like the title because it is a strong and evocative sentence, without necessarily describing anything clearly. The pieces are made using all the materials I never normally work with, such as: soap, broken mirrors, cotton, hair, colored threads, and so on.
Collana, Stefano Marchetti
La collana consiste in un mio classico esempio di mosaico in metallo. Ho cercato di bilanciare il tutto in una forma che io considero bella e armoniosa. Il pezzo, in questo caso, faceva parte della mostra Caino per un giorno dove tutti i lavori sono pensati come un’unica installazione. La collana aveva qui il compito di creare dissonanza e contrapposizione rispetto alle altre opere dedicate al tema di Caino. The necklace consists of a classic example of metal mosaic. I tried to lay it out in a well-balanced shape, in a way that I consider beautiful and harmonious. The piece, in this case, was part of the “Cain for one day” exhibition, where all of the works were conceived as a unique installation. In that context the necklace had the role of creating dissonance and contrast by comparing with the other pieces dedicated to the Cain theme.
