Barbara Paganin – Scrivo così i miei racconti 1/2
Sono otto collane alle quali è affidato il compito di continuare a raccontare con giustezza, incisività e implacabile lucidità la Memoria Aperta di Barbara Paganin. Lo fanno in una mostra attualmente e fino al 15 agosto alla Galleria Marzee a Nimega nei Paesi Bassi. Questa volta si aggiunge al titolo Memoria Aperta il sottotitolo Catarsi a sottolineare che il processo di liberazione-narrazione continua. Solo per chi si fosse perso le puntate precedenti ricordo che nel 2014 la mostra Memoria Aperta (25 spille 25 racconti) era stata presentata a Palazzo Fortuny a Venezia (lo so bene perché ne sono stata la curatrice) e le spille sono attualmente in esposizione al CODA Museum di Apeldoorn fino al 16 agosto.
Mi fa piacere qui mostrarvele tutte (nella loro interezza o in un dettaglio) e riportare per ognuna degli stralci di testo scritto da Barbara Paganin.

This is how I write my stories 1/2Eight necklaces hold the task of narrating with precision, incisiveness and clarity Barbara Paganin’s exhibition Memoria Aperta (Open Memory). The art pieces are currently on display until the 15th of August at the Marzee Gallery in Nijmegen in the Netherlands. This time the title Memoria Aperta is also accompanied by the subtitle Catarsi (Cartharsis) in order to emphasize that the process of liberation and storytelling continues. For those who don’t know, I point out that in 2014 the exhibition Memoria Aperta (whose 25 brooches each represent a story) was held at the Fortuny Palace in Venice (I remember it very well as I was the curator) and are now currently on display until the 16th of August at the CODA Museum in Apeldeoorn.
I’d like to present them here and report for each one of them a note written by Barbara Paganin.

“Contenitori” raccoglie oggetti che fanno parte di un mio vissuto, momenti reali e momenti onirici. Gli oggetti provengono in parte da una collezione che ho ereditato da mio padre e in parte da una mia raccolta fatta in svariati anni di ricerca nei mercatini e nei negozi d’antiquariato a Venezia ma anche in paesi come l’Austria, l’Inghilterra, la Spagna. “Containers” is made up of objects that belong to my past life, both real moments and dreamt ones. Some of the objects come from my dad’s collection which I inherited from him, others are part of my personal collection which is result of years of research in numerous flea markets and antique shops, not only in Venice but also in countries such as Austria, England and Spain.

In “Cornice” i pezzi raccolti sono piccoli e provengono dalle case di bambola. Piccoli oggetti del mondo dell’infanzia.
Quando si indossa questa collana è come essere dentro una cornice e ci si trova al centro di questo racconto.
In “Frame” the objects collected are small and all come from doll houses. They are small objects that belong to childhood.
When wearing this necklace you have the feeling of being inside a frame and of being in the middle of its story.

In molti lavori tratto il tema della simmetria, della specularità, del doppio. Sono venuta al mondo perché prima di me, i miei genitori hanno avuto una bambina che morì due giorni prima di nascere. Io sono io, ma anche lei. Porto il mio nome, ma anche il suo: Barbara. In many of my works I deal with the themes of symmetry, mirroring and of doubles. I was born because, before me, my parents had a female child that died two days before being born. I am me, but I am also her. I have a name that is also hers: Barbara.

Il cortile è un luogo dove è piacevole stare soli, seduti a leggere o in compagnia per chiacchierare. Ho in mente quello della mia scuola dove da ragazza mi fermavo per dipingere con gli acquerelli.
Gli elementi in osso traforato sono stati un tempo le parti decorate della chiusura nelle borsette da donna. Facevano parte quindi di questi contenitori di un mondo tutto femminile. I misteriosi, segreti, personali, privati, magici mondi contenuti nelle borsette delle donne. (Si riferisce a questa e alla precedente collana, n.d.r.).

The courtyard is a place where you can hang around by yourself, sitting down reading, or with other people chatting. I remember my school’s courtyard, where I used to paint with watercolours as a teenager.
The bone open-work pieces once belonged to the latch of a woman’s handbag. Therefore they belonged to the depository of a woman’s world. The mysterious, secret, personal, private and magical world that a woman holds in her handbag [The artist here refers to the former and the previous necklace–Ed].
